A UA Historical Encounters Series Special Event: Taking Measure of Milestones in Modern Ukrainian Military History 1917-2017, convened at venues provided by the McCain Institute in Washington DC on December 7th and 8th 2017, featured five panel discussions and five highlight presentations dedicated to taking a fresh, critical look at the Ukrainian nation’s three attempts in the modern/contemporary era to achieve and maintain statehood in a region that has came to bear the unenviable historical moniker: Blood-lands. The event concentrated on examining the military dimension of the said quest with the help of academics, military analysts and serving military officers from Ukraine, Europe, the US and Canada, well versed in the subject.
