Ukrainian Historical Encounters Series Special Event: “The Ukrainian Experience in 1942 – An Eightieth Year Retrospective.” was held in live format (despite lingering Covid restrictions) on September 24th 2022 at the Ukrainian Institute of America. The full-day conference ran six highlight focus sessions geared to take a fresh, critical look at the myriad circumstances/situations in which Ukrainians found themselves in 1942, from exposure to the “Nur für Deutsche” (Only for Germans) phenomenon and the Ostarbeiter program imposed by the Nazi occupation of Ukrainian lands to the various forms of resistance that were formed to combat the said occupation – with a glimpse at matters for Ukrainians living in Allied countries and serving in Allied armed forces, as well as a look at the Soviet Dezinform campaign leveled at Ukrainians decades later about the period in question.
