CUSUR 2016 - Project I
US-UA “Working Group” Initiative

The US-Ukraine “Working Group” Initiative was launched in 2007 in order to secure an array of experts in "areas of interest” for CUSUR and its various forums/proceedings; at the same time, it was hoped that the ‘experts’ might agree to write a series of ‘occasional papers’ to identify “major issues” impacting on US-Ukrainian relations.
CUSUR 2017 - Project II
Publication Efforts

Recognizing the urgent need to set up proper channels for the maximum circulation of the information/analysis CUSUR possessed or had at its disposal, the Center long focused on having ‘a publication presence’ of some form or another.
CUSUR 2018 - Project III
DC Occasional Briefings Series

CUSUR did not turn its attention to having a DC presence until summer 2012. Borrowing space when the need arose (particularly for various forum steering committees meetings) from the American Foreign Policy Council, its longest abiding partner, seemed to suffice; an Acela ride from the Center’s NY office did the rest. If there was a concern, it was to open an office in Kyiv.

Ukraine on Its Way to Intellectual Trans-Atlantic Integration: Kyiv Hosts Representative International Forum “Euro-Atlantic Future of Ukraine”

Natalya Kostina, Vitaliy Fedianin

KYIV, June 11 /UKRINFORM/—Intellectual integration of Ukraine, the USA and Europe, this is one of the focal points of a three-day international forum “Euro-Atlantic Future of Ukraine”. The conference gathered some 200 participants from Ukraine, the USA, Russia, France, Great Britain, Baltic countries, the Visegrad group and Black Sea countries.

The target of the event is to create an environment for serious and professional discussion of Ukraine's place in the Euro-Atlantic community, its basic internal and external policies with participation of Ukrainian and international experts, governmental and NGO representatives.

According to one of the forum organizers, director of the “Democratic Initiatives” Fund Ilko Kucheriv, debates into these issues must be raised to the level of political ideas, their intellectual competition.

Kucheriv, who once was actively engaged in realization of a project of creating a think tank network in Ukraine, is confident that presently Ukraine should pose itself more actively in such international networks. Still, Ukrainian experts, who are perfect in certain topics, should have rostrums, as this forum is, to publicly access both the press and the society.

As the “Democratic Initiatives” Fund director told a press conference in UKRINFORM, the “Euro-Atlantic Future of Ukraine” forum will be the starting point of annual consultations in the sphere of national interests of Ukraine. Similar events are supposed to be held annually in Ukraine, the United States and in one of European capital cities. “We view this conference as the beginning of annual regular roundtables in Kyiv, the USA and Europe,” he said, having noted that topics will not only be limited in Euro-Atlantic integration. “The fora will consider a wide range of issues related to national interests of Ukraine,” Ilko Kucheriv said. According to him, in December such forum is expected to be held in Berlin, later in Warsaw, than in Brussels or Paris.

In his turn, executive director of the Center for US-Ukrainian Relations, Walter Zaryckyj, told those present about the history of organization of similar fora in the USA. As he stressed, the idea was stimulated by an initiative by Ukraine in 1999 and was supported by the Ukrainian Diaspora in the USA, the American government and NGOs. Since that time seven events have been held. The topics of these were rather wide: “Ukraine in the World”, “Ukraine - America”, “Ukraine - Europe”, “Internal Political Processes in Ukraine”, “Ukraine - Democracy”, “Ukraine - National Identity”, “Ukraine - NATO”. According to Mr. Zaryckyj, next year, Ukraine's membership in the EU and eventual perspectives of its joining 15 leading nations of the world are going to be discussed.
